Install Vellum in your Discord server

The bot needs to be in the server before it can see channels, create report threads, read Forum posts, or update tags.

  1. Press Install Vellum bot below.
  2. Discord opens in a new tab. Pick the server you manage, then approve the requested permissions.
  3. Return here and tick the confirmation box. You only install the bot once per Discord server.

Choose what Discord should send to Vellum

Pick the Vellum board first, then choose the workflow that matches what you already use in Discord.

Copy the Discord channel links

In Discord, right-click a channel and choose Copy Link. Paste the whole link here. All channels must belong to the same Discord server.

Use a normal text channel where Vellum will post the permanent “Report a bug” or “Submit a suggestion” button.

This must be a normal text channel where Vellum can create private threads. It can be the same channel as above.

Use a Discord Forum channel, not a normal text channel. Vellum uses its tags to show each report’s current state.

Discord permissions to checkThe Vellum bot needs View Channel, Read Message History, Send Messages, Send Messages in Threads, Create Public Threads, Create Private Threads, and Manage Threads. A channel override can deny these even if the bot role has them elsewhere.

Match Discord Forum tags to Vellum stages

Vellum changes these tags as work moves through Bug Triage or Suggestions. Detect the Forum’s real tags so mistakes are caught now, not after reports arrive.

Press Detect Forum tags, then pick the matching Discord tag for each row yourself. Vellum no longer guesses tags from their names.

Optional: link extra Discord tags Vellum should know about, such as Not a bug or Wrong mod. Give each one your own name.

Choose how this connection behaves

The defaults are suitable for most people. Change only what you understand, then continue.

Choose one of the Forum’s real tags. Detect them again in step 4 if you added a new tag in Discord.

Vellum uses Discord’s Message Content Intent to read existing Forum posts. It is already configured on the Vellum bot. Imported posts receive Tracked and are skipped later.
